At a press event in San Francisco, Google announced its latest collection of brand new hardware: Google Pixel 2 smartphones, two new smart speakers and futuristic headphones. Following in the footsteps of Apple, Google has decided to not include headphone jack on the Pixel 2 smartphone. Generally, tech companies like Google and Apple favour announcing new products before the holiday shopping season.
Google’s Pixel boasts one of the company’s best versions of Android operating system. With the absence of headphone jack, the Google phone is water resistant and has fingerprint sensors, a powerful camera (rear) and OLED screens.
One of the biggest new features of the device is from the inside. Its new lens feature enables the user to extract information on a few objects. The user is simply required to point the camera at, let’s say, a cat, and the Lens feature will let the user know relevant details like the breed of the cat. The Pixel also has a portrait mode, similar to Apple, which detects the subject and pushes the background out of focus. Apart from that, the Pixel has a 5-inch screen with a cost up to $649. The Pixel 2 XL has a 6-inch screen with a cost up to $849. Both the models can be pre-ordered in India, Canada, Australia, Germany, the U.S. and the U.K. Pixel users will now have use the pair of wireless headphones called Pixel Buds. The headphones cost around $159, and they can only be used with the Pixel as of now. The headphones have the feature of translating around 40 languages via Google Translate.
Moving away from the Pixel phones, Google has also launched Google Clips. It is a small, square-shaped camera that does not require to be clicked in order to get pictures. The camera is built on a feature that detects faces, and it takes still photos and videos of anything that is worth recording. The final files are in the form of 15 frame-per-second movie clips, which can be transferred to the user’s phone over Wi-Fi. The device is priced at $249, and is compatible with iPhone 6 and Pixel as of now.
Now there is a small-sized version of Google Home speaker: Google Home Mini. According to Google, this speaker is smaller than the size of a donut. It is a round disk covered in fabric. It has the same features as the Google Home speaker: calling power, voice recognition, etc. the device, which comes coral, dark grey and grey, will be priced at $49.
Google has also released the Google Home Max ($399). It includes the Google Assistant technology and Smart Sound (a feature that allows adjustment based on the surrounding environment).
Google has also released a new convertible laptop called the Google Pixelbook. With a battery that lasts up to 10 hours, the Pixelbook has a 12.3-inch touchscreen display. It has a feature of instant tethering, which enables it to connect to a Pixel phone automatically. It also comes with a built-in feature of Google Assistant. Kids like to talk to the Google Assistance, hence Google has included a new technology that attempts to decipher whatever kids speak.
